You Talk to Plants?

Yes, I do talk to plants! So far none of them have talked back....that I know of. ;)

This blog is where I will be shamelessly plant-geeky. I enjoy working with plants, designing with them, and watching them change throughout the year. The gardening season in Minnesota is decidedly short (April to November...usually) so we make the most of it that we can.

In this blog I will share some of my successes, my failures, and most things in the plant world that catch my fancy.

A little bit about my professional career:

I began working in the green industry in 2001, became a Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA) Certified Landscape Professional in 2005, and completed my Landscape Horticulture degree from Dakota County Technical College in 2007. I have done a little bit of everything during my horticultural career: garden center sales, installation, design and maintenance. I prefer design and "painting with plants".

I helped run a small garden maintenance company for six years. I recently accepted a full-time Residential Landscape Design position, which I am very excited about. The majority of the gardens and landscapes I work with are in the burbs west of Minneapolis, and in a solid Zone 4a. Some places in Minneapolis can pull off some Zone 5 plants, which I like. (I am most proud of my very successful Red Emperor Japanese maple in Edina!)

In addition, seasonal container design is something of a pet project. There are so many things I can do with that! I also do my best to take care of my own garden at home. But there's a saying: "A landscaper's yard looks the worst."

I regret to tell you it's true.
